The prominent hockey player, Nicklas Backstrom, resumes his professional career in Sweden, joining the Brynas IF team after a period of absence due to a hip injury. The Swedish club confirmed this Monday the incorporation of Backstrom for next season. The 37-year-old center finished his contract with the Washington Capitals this summer.

I have always felt that I would like to represent Brynas again someday if the opportunity arose. After undergoing rehabilitation and being away from the game for almost two seasons, I feel very motivated and full of energy to contribute to the club’s future successes.

Backstrom underwent hip replacement surgery in June 2022, seeking to resolve a chronic problem. By September 2023, during training camp, he assured he felt “much better.” His last official game was on October 29, 2023, and on November 1, he announced a leave due to an “ongoing injury situation,” according to the team. Before this, Backstrom played in more than 1,200 games with the Capitals, accumulating more than 1,100 points and contributing to the Stanley Cup victory in 2018. The Capitals issued a statement thanking Backstrom and wishing him success in the future, highlighting his dedication and constant effort.
