TAMPA, Fla. – Desmond Watson’s quest to make the Tampa Bay Buccaneers will begin with a delay. Buccaneers coach Todd Bowles reported that the most corpulent player in NFL history is day-to-day, after starting camp on the non-football injury list due to his weight.

It’s simply about improving his condition, making him a healthier player and allowing him to be on the field longer.

Bowles added on Wednesday that they are working with Watson, and that’s all they can ask for at the moment. Watson, who played in Florida, was signed after not being selected in the April draft. On the university’s pro day, he weighed 464 pounds and lost between 25 and 30 pounds before the draft.

I don’t have a timeline to know how much weight he can lose or when it will happen.

The 6-foot-6-inch defensive tackle has been working with a team nutritionist, and the team has not specified what his ideal playing weight would be.
