Tyreek Hill Suffers Knee Dislocation: Evaluation and Outlook for the Dolphins

Miami Dolphins star receiver Tyreek Hill suffered a left knee dislocation during Monday night’s game against the New York Jets. The incident forced Hill to remain hospitalized for further testing, according to coach Mike McDaniel. The Dolphins are expected to receive more details about the injury on Tuesday. However, Hill’s injury is expected to end his season. Drew Rosenhaus, Hill’s agent, revealed that he accompanied the player to the hospital, where MRIs and CT scans were performed to determine the severity of the damage. Possible ligament tears, cartilage damage, bone fractures, and possible nerve damage are being evaluated.

“We don’t know the extent of the injury. The doctors have told me that his knee was dislocated, which I think was evident to everyone who saw the horrible play. But what that means, and the extent of the damage, and whether he will need surgery, to what extent, we should find out all of that in the next few hours,” Rosenhaus said.

The injury occurred in the third quarter, when Hill caught a 10-yard pass from quarterback Tua Tagovailoa. His left leg twisted as he was tackled out of bounds. Despite the seriousness of the situation, Hill maintained a positive attitude, smiling and waving to the fans as he was carted off. Coach McDaniel highlighted his spirit and focus on the team. The Dolphins responded with two consecutive touchdown drives, and McDaniel believes Hill’s attitude was crucial to this performance. Before the game, Hill led the Dolphins with 198 receiving yards. In his four seasons in Miami, he had only missed one game. With Hill’s absence, Jaylen Waddle will take on a more prominent role, and second-year receiver Malik Washington is expected to increase his participation. The Dolphins could also rely on players in other positions to generate offense in the passing game. Darren Waller, tight end, debuted in the season with two touchdown passes, and running back De’Von Achane leads NFL running backs in receptions and receiving yards since the start of last season.

“I feel like there’s going to be a lot of guys in the receiver room that are going to have more opportunities to make plays. I trust them, especially from what I’ve seen during camp and the first few weeks. Football is a game and a business where you have to move on. There’s no replacing Hill, but I feel like we have guys that can get the job done,” Waller said.
