C.J. Gardner-Johnson Ready for Week 1 with the Texans

Houston Texans coach DeMeco Ryans announced this Monday that safety C.J. Gardner-Johnson will be fit for Week 1 of the 2025 season. The Texans are preparing for their first encounter against the Los Angeles Rams.

Gardner-Johnson has been out of action since August 7 due to a knee injury sustained during a practice at the Greenbrier Resort in West Virginia. The injury looked serious, as the player struggled to move after attempting a tackle.

Fortunately, there was no structural damage to the anterior cruciate ligament (ACL), allowing for a quicker recovery. Gardner-Johnson is expected to participate in practice this week and start in the secondary, alongside Calen Bullock.

The Texans acquired Gardner-Johnson in March, in exchange for left guard Kenyon Green, selected in the first round of 2022. The safety is expected to improve a secondary that achieved the second-most interceptions last season (19), led by All-Pro cornerback Derek Stingley Jr., cornerback Kamari Lassiter, and nickel Jalen Pitre.
