Anthony Richardson Could Return to Practice on Saturday After Injury

Colts quarterback Anthony Richardson Sr. could return to practice as early as Saturday, according to sources close to the situation. The injury occurred during Thursday night’s preseason game. Richardson suffered a dislocated right pinky finger while being tackled by Baltimore Ravens linebacker David Ojabo in the first quarter of the game. The team’s medical staff acted quickly to relocate the joint. Richardson tried to test his ability to grip the ball and even began throwing light passes on the sideline. However, coach Shane Steichen decided to take him out of the game. Daniel Jones finished the first half, and then Riley Leonard entered in the second half. The X-rays taken during the break were negative, according to sources. Colts players have a day off scheduled for Friday, but will return to the training camp in Westfield, Indiana, on Saturday. If Richardson can throw the ball effectively, he is likely to be on the field.

The finger is “sensitive”, but “I’ll be fine”, Richardson commented after the game.

The Colts’ quarterback situation is uncertain. The coach had planned to give Richardson a lot of playing time in the preseason game, with Jones scheduled to play more next week. However, after Richardson’s injury, the plan changed. Before the injury, Richardson completed 2 of 3 passes. Jones came in and completed 10 of 21 passes for 144 yards.
