Alim McNeill ready to return to the Lions
Detroit Lions starting defensive tackle Alim McNeill is confirmed to play in Monday night’s game against the Tampa Bay Buccaneers, according to coach Dan Campbell. McNeill hasn’t played since he suffered a torn anterior cruciate ligament in his right knee in December. If there are no setbacks, he is likely to gradually return to play on Monday, after a long period of absence. The Lions initiated McNeill’s 21-day practice window two weeks ago, and he has stood out in those sessions. Considered one of Detroit’s best defenders, McNeill is returning from the first significant injury of his career. In 2024, McNeill started in the 14 games in which he participated, finishing with 25 tackles and 3.5 sacks. He will look to pick up where he left off after the Detroit defense allowed at least 24 points in three of its first six games. The Lions (4-2) are looking to bounce back after Sunday’s 30-17 loss to the Kansas City Chiefs.“Everyone loves McNeill and knows the kind of teammate he is, but also the production he can bring both in the running game and in the passing game,” Campbell said.

“He’s the kind of person who elevates those around him and will raise their level of play or their production just by being there, because they’re going to attract a little bit of attention or they’re going to have to,” Campbell commented. “So listen, it’s his first game back, so he’s going to have to shake off some cobwebs. But after what I’ve seen, it won’t take long. It’s good to have him back. He’s certainly one of our pieces. He’s a pivotal piece to what we do here, and he’s going to help us.”
