The Detroit Lions withdrew their rule proposal that sought to modify the NFL playoff seeding.
The proposal, which was to be voted on at Wednesday’s spring meeting, proposed a significant change in the way postseason games are determined.
Proposal Details
The core of the proposal revolved around guaranteeing home games for division winners. Under the Lions’ proposal, only the division winner with the best record in each conference would be assured a home playoff game.
The remaining playoff-qualified teams would be seeded strictly by their record, regardless of whether they had won their division.
Currently, the NFL’s format ensures a home game for the four division winners in each conference, regardless of their record.
