Justin Fields Misses Buccaneers Game with Concussion
New York Jets quarterback Justin Fields will not participate in Sunday’s game against the Tampa Bay Buccaneers due to a concussion.
This was announced by the coach in his first year, Aaron Glenn, this Wednesday.
Glenn confirmed that Tyrod Taylor, a veteran, will be the starting quarterback for the Jets in their first away game of the season.
Fields suffered the injury in the last quarter of last Sunday’s loss to the Buffalo Bills.
The hit occurred when the back of his helmet hit the turf after contact with Joey Bosa, a Bills player.
According to the NFL’s concussion protocol, Fields must be cleared by an independent neurologist before he can return to play.
Taylor, 36, has 58 career starts, but hasn’t been a starter since 2023, when he played with the New York Giants.
Last season, Taylor was on the Jets’ bench, behind Aaron Rodgers, and only participated in cleanup situations.
The Jets are looking to avoid their first 0-3 season start since 2021.
