Justin Jefferson Returns to Vikings Training

Minnesota Vikings star receiver Justin Jefferson has returned to training after a 25-day absence due to a hamstring injury. The player participated in Monday’s practice, marking a significant milestone in his recovery. Jefferson, who suffered the injury last month, has been out of action since the second day of training camp. Caution is key, given his history with hamstring injuries, including missing seven games in 2023. During Monday’s session, Jefferson focused on warm-ups and individual exercises, but did not participate in the 7-on-7 and 11-on-11 practices. Although he will not play in the last preseason game against the Tennessee Titans, he is expected to be ready for the first regular season game against the Chicago Bears on September 8th. The presence of Jefferson is crucial for the Vikings, especially considering the current situation of their receiving corps. Coach Kevin O’Connell has highlighted the importance of Jefferson, who has been supporting the team from the sidelines during training camp.

I am a kid at heart. I want to be here with the guys. I want to play football and I want to be in the mix. I don’t like being the only person standing on the side.

During his time away, Jefferson has analyzed the reasons behind his hamstring problems. He has concluded that his unique playing style, which includes distinct movements and cuts, may put more pressure on his body. Now, he is focusing on strengthening his body to withstand these demands. Jefferson’s return comes at a time when the Vikings’ receiver position faces challenges. Jordan Addison will serve a three-game suspension at the start of the season, and Jalen Nailor has not practiced due to a hand injury sustained during joint practices with the New England Patriots. Coach O’Connell has labeled Nailor’s status as “week-to-week” and has not confirmed whether surgery will be required. The Vikings have been rotating several receivers in training camp, including Tim Jones, Lucky Jackson, Thayer Thomas, and rookie Tai Felton.
