Hendrickson in doubt for Bengals vs. Steelers; Stewart returns

CINCINNATI – Uncertainty surrounds one of Cincinnati’s key defenders ahead of Thursday’s crucial AFC North matchup. Defensive end Trey Hendrickson, who did not participate in the second half of Sunday’s loss to Green Bay due to a hip injury, has been officially listed as questionable for the Bengals’ home game against the Pittsburgh Steelers. Hendrickson did not practice all week and was absent from Tuesday night’s practice at Paycor Stadium. The current NFL leader in quarterback sacks, Hendrickson has four sacks in six games this season. Regardless of Hendrickson’s participation, Cincinnati will receive a boost on the defensive line with the return of young Shemar Stewart, who was absent for four games. Stewart hasn’t played since he injured his ankle in Week 2.

He’s a talented young man. If you’re going to face an offense like Pittsburgh’s, you need players like him on the field.

The Bengals (2-4) are looking to break a four-game losing streak and stay in the hunt in an AFC North with irregular results. Cincinnati currently occupies second place in the division, behind Pittsburgh (4-1). In other injury news, the Bengals will be without two tight ends on Thursday. Mike Gesicki was placed on injured reserve after suffering a pectoral injury against the Packers and will miss at least four games. Tanner Hudson is also out due to a concussion. Wide receiver Charlie Jones (ribs) and offensive guard Lucas Patrick (calf) are listed as questionable. Patrick has been on the injured reserve list since Week 2.
