In the midst of a complicated start to the season, Ravens safety Kyle Hamilton came out in defense of defensive coordinator Zach Orr.
Hamilton Defends Orr
After three games played, Hamilton expressed that there is no reason to be alarmed. “It’s unfair to blame him completely when there are eleven players on the field who are giving their all and he has put us in the correct positions,” Hamilton stated. “It’s a matter of us doing the right thing.”The Ravens’ defense finds itself in an unusual position, ranking in the bottom of the NFL in several categories. The team is among the worst in total yards allowed, run defense, pass defense, and points allowed. This situation contrasts with the tradition of the Ravens, known for their elite defenses and iconic players like Ray Lewis and Ed Reed. Hamilton also noted that Ravens fans might be “a little spoiled” due to the team’s historical success. Defensive coordinator Zach Orr, for his part, has chosen to ignore external criticism. “I focus on football. That’s what we talk about here and how to improve,” Orr said. Orr recalled that last season had a similarly difficult start, but the team managed to improve significantly in the second half. After the defeat against the Detroit Lions, Hamilton highlighted that Orr has not blamed anyone. The Ravens’ offense, led by Lamar Jackson, is ranked first in scoring, averaging 37 points per game. The Ravens have faced high-level offenses, such as the Buffalo Bills and the Lions. In the coming weeks, they will face the Kansas City Chiefs, the Houston Texans, and the Los Angeles Rams. Hamilton expressed optimism about the team’s future, emphasizing the importance of focusing on each game and taking advantage of the opportunities that arise. “We have to prove our worth every week in this league and we didn’t do a good job last week. But we have another week, and it’s a big game and a great opportunity for us,” Hamilton said about Sunday’s game against Patrick Mahomes and the Chiefs. “So, the sky isn’t falling. We’ll be fine.”I think the criticism of Zach or any coach is unfair because he can’t go out and play for us as much as he’d like. He can’t. So it’s up to us to go out there and do the job.
