Commanders of Washington: Key Absences for the Game Against the Bears
The Washington Commanders are preparing to face the Chicago Bears on Monday, and unfortunately, they will once again be without two of their main receivers, and possibly even all of them.
Commanders coach Dan Quinn confirmed the absence of receivers Terry McLaurin (quadriceps) and Noah Brown (groin/knee).
In addition, receiver Deebo Samuel did not participate in Thursday’s or Saturday’s practices due to a heel contusion. Quinn indicated that they will assess his status until Monday itself to determine his participation in the game.
McLaurin will miss his third consecutive game, while Brown will be absent for the fourth time. Samuel has played in all five games of the season and was working on a separate field with the strength and conditioning coaches.
Quinn ruled out McLaurin for the game against the Bears (2-2) after he was unable to practice during the week. McLaurin suffered the quadriceps injury when diving for the end zone after a 56-yard reception.
Brown was a limited participant in Wednesday and Thursday’s practices. Although he was able to run routes at full speed, Quinn indicated that “he had a good week in individual work, but he’s not ready yet.”
McLaurin, who signed a three-year extension in late August, after missing all of Washington’s camp practices, managed 10 receptions for 149 yards and no touchdowns in the first three games.
Samuel has become the Commanders’ main target and would be a significant loss if he can’t play. He leads Washington with 30 receptions, 300 yards, and three touchdowns.
In the last two weeks, without McLaurin and Brown, Samuel has achieved 14 receptions for 168 yards.
Brown, for his part, achieved three receptions for 36 yards in the first two games. In 11 games with Washington last season, he caught 35 passes for 453 yards and a touchdown. In addition, he was second in the NFL in receiving six defensive pass interference penalties.
Brown caught a 52-yard pass from quarterback Jayden Daniels in the final second to beat Chicago, 18-15, in Week 8 of last season.
