Chargers Activate Mack and Perryman: Defensive Reinforcement to Face the Colts
The Los Angeles Chargers have activated linebackers Khalil Mack and Denzel Perryman from the injured reserve list, the team announced on Saturday. This move clears the way for both players to return to the field this Sunday against the Indianapolis Colts.
Mack suffered an elbow injury during the Chargers’ Week 2 victory against the Raiders. The incident occurred in the first quarter, when Mack attempted a tackle and his left hand got trapped between Chargers linebacker Troy Dye and Raiders wide receiver Tre Tucker.
Perryman, for his part, injured his ankle in the Chargers’ Week 1 victory against the Kansas City Chiefs.
The absence of Perryman and Mack has significantly affected the Chargers’ defense, especially in run containment, where both players are fundamental pillars.
From Week 3, the first game without Perryman and Mack, the Chargers have allowed 579 rushing yards, the sixth-most in the NFL. Before Mack was placed on injured reserve after Week 2, they had allowed the ninth-fewest rushing yards in the league.
The Colts have the league’s leading rusher, Jonathan Taylor, who has 603 rushing yards and seven touchdowns this season. Taylor is the only running back averaging more than 100 yards per game (100.5).
