Ravens Bolster Defense with John Jenkins

The Baltimore Ravens have signed veteran defensive tackle John Jenkins, bolstering their defensive line with a large-bodied run-stopper.

The Ravens’ need for a robust defensive lineman became evident after Michael Pierce’s retirement in March. Jenkins, known for his ability to occupy space and stop runners, arrives to fill this important position.

Ravens general manager Eric DeCosta had previously expressed the team’s interest in reinforcing the defensive line during the draft, although the desired players were selected before the Ravens could make their pick.

Jenkins, standing at 6 feet 3 inches and weighing 327 pounds, arrives in Baltimore after playing the last two seasons with the Las Vegas Raiders. In 2023, he achieved a record of 61 tackles, followed by 46 tackles in the most recent season.

Despite being 35 years old, Jenkins has proven to be a consistent and resilient player, participating in 45 consecutive games. Although he had a high number of plays last season, his playing time in Baltimore is expected to be less due to the presence of Travis Jones in the defensive rotation.

Throughout his 12 seasons in the NFL, Jenkins has accumulated a total of 319 tackles, 15 tackles for loss, and 4.5 sacks, playing for the New Orleans Saints, Seattle Seahawks, New York Giants, Chicago Bears, Miami Dolphins, and Raiders.
