NBA Movement: Hornets Trade Mark Williams to the Suns

The Charlotte Hornets have finalized a trade that sends center Mark Williams to the Phoenix Suns. In return, the Hornets will receive the number 29 pick in tonight’s draft and a 2029 first-round pick, according to sources. This move comes at a time when the Suns also selected center Kalam Maluch with the tenth pick in the draft, a pick they received from the Houston Rockets as part of the Kevin Durant trade last week. With Williams and Maluch, the Suns seek to strengthen their center position, which has been in constant change since the franchise traded Deandre Ayton. Williams recorded career highs with 15.3 points and 10.2 rebounds per game for the Hornets this season. However, his year will be remembered for what didn’t happen. The Lakers agreed to a trade to acquire Williams shortly after obtaining Luka Doncic, but ultimately Los Angeles did not approve Williams’ physical examination and rescinded the agreement. Williams, a large and athletic 7-foot player, has been affected by injuries. The 44 games played this season were a career high for the 2022 first-round pick. Is eligible for a contract extension this summer.
