Naz Reid Stays in Minnesota: Signs a Million-Dollar Contract

Minnesota Timberwolves’ center Naz Reid has decided to stay with the franchise and will sign a new five-year, $125 million contract. The agreement includes an option for the player, according to sources close to the negotiation. This renewal represents a crucial agreement for the Timberwolves, who ensure the continuity of Reid, represented by Sean Kennedy and Jeff Schwartz of Excel Sports. Reid opted not to exercise a player option for $15 million for next season, choosing to remain in Minnesota despite interest from other teams that offered similar conditions, but with starting roles. The 2023-24 Sixth Man of the Year, Reid had another outstanding season coming off the bench for Minnesota, averaging 14.2 points and six rebounds in 27.5 minutes per game, career highs. In the 17 games he played as a starter, he averaged 18.3 points and 9.0 rebounds. Reid, 25, has been fundamental for the Timberwolves, who have reached the Western Conference finals in consecutive seasons, contributing to open the court thanks to his ability as a three-point shooter. He was one of three power forwards/centers who averaged at least 5.8 three-point attempts per game last season, along with Kristaps Porzingis and Victor Wembanyama, and has maintained a 39.5% success rate from long distance in the last two seasons. Additionally, Reid is one of three players who have scored 2,000 points off the bench in the last three seasons. Reid signed a three-year, $42 million contract in 2023, with a player option for this summer. He has played his entire six-year NBA career with the Timberwolves, after joining the team in 2019 as an undrafted free agent from LSU.
