Michael Jordan Jersey Achieves Million-Dollar Price at Auction

A jersey worn by Michael Jordan during 17 games with the Chicago Bulls in the 1992-93 NBA season sold for $2.623 million, including the buyer’s premium, at a Heritage Auctions auction.

Jordan was photographed with this jersey on the cover of Sports Illustrated magazine on October 18, 1993.

The photo-matching services of MeiGray and Sports Investors Authentication have confirmed that this is the only Jordan jersey that has been able to be associated with any season of the Bulls’ first three-peat. Although a definitive photo match could not be made for all games, SIA’s letter of authenticity states that “we believe this jersey was most likely used in all away games from November 6, 1992 to March 24, 1993 (a total of 32 away games).”

The shirt and shorts were identified in 11 matches between November and March, while only the shirt or shorts could be identified in the other six matches.

The 1992-93 season was notable for both Jordan and the Bulls. Jordan led the NBA in scoring for the seventh consecutive year (tying Wilt Chamberlain for the most consecutive seasons of this kind) and led the Bulls to their first three-peat.
