Los Angeles Lakers Restructure Their Operations Department
The Los Angeles Lakers have made the decision to reorganize their basketball operations department, which has resulted in the dismissal of executives Joey and Jesse Buss from their positions in the front office, effective immediately. Joey and Jesse Buss, who have played key roles in the Lakers’ scouting area over the last decade, have contributed significantly to the identification of talents such as Austin Reaves, Kyle Kuzma, Jordan Clarkson, Larry Nance Jr., and Max Christie. The brothers will maintain their minority ownership shares within the Lakers. Jerry Buss, who passed away in 2013, acquired the Lakers from Jack Kent Cooke in 1979 in a $67.5 million transaction that also included the Los Angeles Kings and the Forum. The Buss family sold its majority stake in the Lakers to Mark Walter in June. That sale, with a valuation of $10 billion, was approved by the NBA Board of Governors last month.“We are extremely honored to have been a part of this organization for the last 20 seasons,” Joey and Jesse Buss said in a statement. “We thank Laker Nation for embracing our family every step of the way. We wish things could have been different in the way our time with the team ended. In times like this, we wish we could ask our father what he would think of all this.”
