Jeremy Lin Announces Retirement from Professional Basketball
The player who lit up the NBA in 2012, during his time with the New York Knicks, known as “Linsanity”, has decided to end his professional basketball career. Lin, who recently played in Taiwan, made the announcement via an Instagram post on Saturday night.The announcement was made via Instagram.
In their message, Lin added:“As athletes, we are always aware that the possibility of retirement is never far away,” he wrote. “I have spent 15 years of my career knowing that one day I would have to retire, and yet, saying goodbye to basketball today has been the most difficult decision I have ever made.”

Lin, 37, came from winning consecutive championships with the New Taipei Kings. Last season, he was named MVP of the Taiwan Professional Basketball League in its inaugural season and then earned the Finals MVP award during the New Taipei Kings’ championship run. Before playing in China and Taiwan, Lin spent nine seasons in the NBA with eight different teams, after not being drafted from Harvard, where he joined the team as a walk-on. Lin made his mark with the Knicks in 2012. Then-coach Mike D’Antoni included him in the lineup in February, when Carmelo Anthony was out, and Lin led New York to a seven-game winning streak. One of the highlights of “Linsanity”, during which Lin scored at least 20 points in nine out of 10 games, was his performance of 38 points and 7 assists in the victory against the Los Angeles Lakers, surpassing Kobe Bryant, who scored 34 points in the game. Lin averaged 14.6 points and 6.2 assists in 35 games that season for New York. Lin finished his NBA career with averages of 11.6 points and 4.3 assists in 480 games for the Knicks, Golden State Warriors, Houston Rockets, Lakers, Charlotte Hornets, Brooklyn Nets, Atlanta Hawks, and Toronto Raptors. He won an NBA championship with the Raptors in 2019, his last season in the NBA.“It has been the honor of my life to compete against the fiercest rivals under the brightest lights and to challenge what the world thought was possible for someone who looks like me.
