Anthony Davis Returns to Action Against the Mavericks
The star power forward/center of the Dallas Mavericks, Anthony Davis, plans to return to action this Friday against the Los Angeles Lakers in Los Angeles, according to sources close to the team. Davis has been out of the courts for the last month due to a calf strain. This encounter will mark the first time that the 2020 NBA champion faces his former team in Los Angeles since the February trade that took him to the Mavs. Davis, who hasn’t played since October 29, initially aimed to return in the game against the Washington Wizards on November 8. However, Mavs governor Patrick Dumont postponed that plan, following the advice of Dallas’s director of health and performance, Johann Bilsborough, who insisted that Davis would not be cleared to play until there was medical data indicating that he was not at risk of aggravating the injury. After Wednesday’s training, Davis told reporters that he would play in one of the Mavs’ weekend games against the Los Angeles teams. The plan now is for Davis to miss Saturday’s game against the LA Clippers and be available for Monday’s game against the Denver Nuggets. Davis’ return comes 17 days after the dismissal of Mavs general manager Nico Harrison, and amid the expectation that the Mavs will explore the trade market for him before the early February deadline. That doesn’t affect me. I’ve been in trade conversations for a while. My job is to do what I do when I’m on the court, play basketball and try to lead this team. Whatever comes of that, will come. I really don’t have any control over that, but I have an open line of communication with the front office and I’m ready to get back on the court. You know the game I want to play. But we’ll see.
