Anthony Davis Remains Sidelined Due to Injury

The Dallas Mavericks’ power forward/center, Anthony Davis, will be out of action for at least seven to ten more days due to recovery from a left calf strain, the team announced on Sunday night. Davis missed his ninth consecutive game on Sunday, a 138-133 overtime win against the Portland Trail Blazers. The deadline was determined after Davis was reevaluated over the weekend.

He wants to be there to help us. But this gives him seven to ten days to improve or get stronger. Hopefully, in seven to ten days, he’ll be back on the court.

Jason Kidd, Mavs coach
Davis originally targeted the November 8 road game against the Washington Wizards as a return date. That plan was scrapped. Days later, it became clear that he would not approve the 10-time All-Star’s return until he was provided with medical metrics indicating that there was no risk of aggravating the calf strain or suffering a related, potentially catastrophic injury. In doing so, he sided with Mavs director of health and performance, Johann Bilsborough, urging a cautious approach to the authorization of Davis’s personal medical staff, who was added to the team’s payroll this season. One of the main concerns is that Davis could rupture his left Achilles tendon if he is rushed back before the calf strain fully recovers. Davis has only played in 14 games.
