Bob Myers Leaves ESPN to Chair Sports at Harris Blitzer

Former Golden State Warriors general manager Bob Myers will leave his position as a basketball analyst at ESPN to become president of sports for Harris Blitzer Sports & Entertainment. This new position will allow the executive, known for his championship successes, to work in several of the world’s most important sports leagues. Myers will assume a full-time role with the aim of maximizing opportunities and strengthening processes for the Harris Blitzer Sports & Entertainment (HBSE) portfolio. This includes the NBA’s Philadelphia 76ers, the NHL’s New Jersey Devils, the English Premier League’s Crystal Palace F.C., and an investment in the NASCAR team Joe Gibbs Racing. Additionally, Myers will continue to support Josh Harris, managing partner of the Washington Commanders, after helping establish the leadership team structure that has guided the NFL franchise toward prominence. There will be no changes to the reporting structures for HBSE teams; the basketball and hockey operations presidents will continue to report to the ownership of their respective teams. The arrival of Myers, and his reputation as a respected and powerful figure in the industry, strengthens HBSE’s executive ranks. He will work strategically with ownership and the senior leadership groups of each team. He will remain in California but will travel regularly to HBSE/Commanders properties and events.

“Our goal has been to hire, grow, and retain the brightest executives in the world, and we are a stronger and more dynamic organization with the addition of Bob Myers,” said Harris and David Blitzer. “His experience as a championship team architect will complement our existing leadership structure, while allowing HBSE to maximize opportunities across our entire portfolio. We are excited for Bob to continue his successful career here at HBSE.”

This is the global and multifaceted sporting opportunity that Myers was looking for in the next chapter of his career.
Bob Myers helped build the Warriors teams that won four NBA titles and worked as an analyst at ESPN after leaving his position at Golden State in 2023. Myers began his career as a sports agent for 14 years before moving to a position in the Warriors’ office in 2011. During his 12 years with Golden State, Myers rose to the position of president and general manager, building rosters that won NBA titles in 2015, 2017, 2018 and 2022, and winning the NBA Executive of the Year awards in 2015 and 2017. In 2024, Myers advised Harris on building the Commanders’ organizational infrastructure, including the hiring of general manager Adam Peters and head coach Dan Quinn. Myers also began working as a basketball analyst for ESPN after leaving his position with the Warriors in 2023, and participated in the network’s pre- and post-game basketball shows. “I have been fortunate enough to know Josh and David for a long time, and I have always admired and respected them greatly for the way they have built such an impressive global sports portfolio,” Myers said. “This role was intriguing because it provides the opportunity to work with some of the most talented leaders and executives in the industry in the world’s largest sports leagues. “By leveraging HBSE’s global presence in sports, we can create competitive advantages for our athletes and teams that enhance our ability to win. This is the type of challenge and opportunity I was looking for, and I am grateful to Josh and David for the opportunity to be a part of HBSE.” Myers added: “I also want to thank Bob Iger, Jimmy Pitaro, and my ESPN colleagues for an incredible experience during my time there and for their support as I pursue the next chapter of my career.”
