AJ Green Signs Million-Dollar Extension with the Bucks
Milwaukee Bucks guard AJ Green has agreed to a four-year, $45 million fully guaranteed contract extension with the franchise. The news was confirmed by Green’s agent, Matt Bollero of ProMondo Sports.
Green’s story with the Bucks is an example of overcoming adversity. The player, originally from Iowa, went from not being drafted in 2022 to obtaining a dual contract, then a standard contract, and now a lucrative long-term deal.
With this extension, Green will be under contract with Milwaukee until the 2029-30 season, preventing him from entering free agency next summer. This is a significant bet, considering that the 26-year-old player has established himself as an undisputed starter for coach Doc Rivers in the new season.
Green scored 541 points last season, surpassing the 406 points he accumulated in his first two NBA seasons, averaging 7.4 points per game. He is recognized as one of the best shooters in the league, with an average of 42% in three-point shots throughout his career, and has maintained a percentage above 40% in three-point shots in the three seasons he has been in the NBA.
Although he has only been a starter in eight regular season games, Green proved his worth in the April playoffs. In the crucial Game 5 of the first round, Rivers included him in the starting lineup, and Green responded with 19 points and 46 minutes of play. His playoff performance increased to 11.0 points, with an impressive 51% success rate on three-point shots. His good performance has extended to the preseason, where he has been a starter in the Bucks’ four games this month.
According to data from the previous season, Green’s 42.7% three-point shooting accuracy was the sixth best among players who attempted at least 300 three-pointers, and his 44.9% on three-pointers after receiving the ball was the fifth best among players with at least 250 attempts.
