Yadier Molina Returns to the Cardinals Dugout

SAN LUIS, Missouri. A baseball legend returns to the St. Louis Cardinals dugout this weekend. Former Puerto Rican catcher Yadier Molina will join Oliver Marmol’s coaching staff for the series against the Chicago Cubs at Busch Stadium, marking his first official appearance with the team since his retirement in 2022. Manager Marmol extended the invitation as soon as he knew Molina would be in town.

“As soon as I heard he was going to be in town, inviting him to sit next to me was the right thing to do. It’s good for the players, for the coaching staff, and frankly, it’s also great for the fans,” he noted.

Molina, at 43 years old, seeks to continue accumulating experience as a manager in professional baseball. He already managed the Puerto Rico national team in the 2023 World Baseball Classic and will repeat in the 2026 edition. During his 19 seasons in the Major Leagues, all with the Cardinals, Molina forged an impressive legacy, including 10 All-Star Game appearances, nine Gold Gloves, and two World Series titles. His return, although temporary, strengthens the connection with the organization and the fans who saw him become one of the most outstanding catchers of his time.
