SÃO PAULO, BRAZIL – Renowned Brazilian coach Vanderlei Luxemburgo is hospitalized in the intensive care unit (ICU) due to a lung infection, according to sources close to the coach this Friday.
Luxembourg, 73, was transferred to a medical center in Palmas, capital of the state of Tocantins, after experiencing health problems overnight. After several tests, the medical staff confirmed the infection and decided to admit him to intensive care, where he is receiving treatment with antibiotics.
Vanderlei Luxemburgo’s Career
The experienced strategist, who led the Brazilian national team between 1998 and 2000, has a distinguished and successful career in the world of soccer, being considered one of the most awarded coaches in Brazil.
Over more than four decades, Luxemburgo has managed important clubs such as Flamengo, Palmeiras, Santos, Cruzeiro, Atlético Mineiro, Grêmio, Fluminense and Vasco da Gama, in addition to his brief international stint at Real Madrid in 2005.
His last experience as a coach was in 2023 with Corinthians, a team he managed for the third time before being dismissed after a series of unfavorable results.
Recently, Luxembourg had focused its efforts on politics, announcing its candidacy for the Senate for the state of Tocantins, marking a new chapter in his professional life.
For the time being, no further details have been provided about their health condition, while their environment awaits their recovery.
