SAN CRISTÓBAL – Xavier Reyes and Romeao Ferguson led the attack for the Southern Titans, who achieved a crucial victory over the Eastern Sugar Cane Growers with a final score of 87-74 at the San Cristóbal sports complex, within the framework of the LNB Super League, in the competition for the Banreservas Cup. Reyes was decisive in the last quarter, scoring 12 points in the last ten minutes of the match, culminating in a total of 18 points and 6 rebounds. Ferguson, for his part, contributed 22 points and 5 assists. Jonathan Araújo also had an outstanding performance, recording a double-double with 13 points and 14 rebounds. With this triumph, the Titans improve their record to 5-7, while the Sugar Cane Growers stand at 6-8. Both teams are in the fight to secure a place in the elimination phase. On the Cañeros side, Yeison Colomé was the most outstanding with 18 points and 5 assists, followed by Lazar Lugic and Eusebio Suero, who scored 14 points each. The team struggled with three-point shots, with a percentage of 17% (6/35). The Titans established their dominance in the second quarter thanks to an aggressive defense. Although the Cañeros tried to react and reduce a 10-point disadvantage, the Titans maintained the lead and went to halftime with a 9-point difference (50-41). In the first two quarters, the San Cristóbal team had 46% field goal shooting efficiency (17 of 37) and a perfect 12 of 12 from the free throw line. Jonathan Araújo led the offense with 11 points and 5 rebounds, while Romeao Ferguson and Isaiah Rivera contributed 10 points each. Lazar Lugic led the Cañeros’ attack in the first half with 14 points, followed by Marvin Smith Jr. with 7 and Eusebio Suero with 6. The team had 50% field goal shooting in the first half.
Despite Colomé’s 7 points to bring the Cañeros closer, the home team managed to maintain a 7-point lead (63-56) in the third quarter, although they had problems with ball handling, losing 10 balls.
In the final quarter, the Titans consolidated their dominance with three-pointers from Ferguson and Reyes, extending the lead to 14 points (74-60) with 5:04 remaining. A three-pointer from Colomé with 56 seconds left was not enough to change the course of the game.
