Liga de las Estrellas Domina Copa Internacional de Maxibaloncesto in Medellín
The delegation of the Star League, representing the Dominican Republic, shone brightly in the “Amigos de Zúñiga 2025” International Maxibasketball Cup, held in Medellin, Colombia, by obtaining two champion titles.
Dominican teams demonstrated their superiority in the +40 and +45 years categories, in a tournament that featured the participation of 80 Maxibasketball teams from 14 countries. The matches were held at the Iván de Bedout Coliseum in the Colombian city.
Raúl Peña (Koby), general manager of both Dominican teams, provided details on the teams’ performance. Carlos Martínez and César Rosario (Papalo) were the managers of the +40 and +45 age categories, respectively.

In the +40 years category, the Stars League won in the final against Puerto Rico with a score of 78-71. Manuel Fortuna (Mané), Juan Pablo Montás, César Rosario (Papalo) and Stalin Fernández led the Dominican offense.
Manuel Fortuna (Mañé) was recognized as the Most Valuable Player of the +40 years category.
In the +45 years category, the League of the Stars defeated La Hermandad de Panama with a score of 68-62, despite the presence of the outstanding Panamanian player Jaime Lloreda.
This triumph represented the third championship for the Liga de las Estrellas in its participations in the “Amigos de Zúñiga” International Maxibasketball Cup in Medellín.
Stalin Fernández, Alberto Ozuna (Cebollita), Edgar Lugo, Carlos Martínez, Roberto Carlos, and Ricardo Monsac were key figures in the victory of the Dominican team.
Edgar Lugo, originally from La Vega, was named the Most Valuable Player of the +45 years category.
