Kelvin Cruz Criticizes the Deterioration of the Quisqueya Stadium and Announces Measures

SANTO DOMINGO – The Minister of Sports, Kelvin Cruz, expressed his deep concern about the current state of the Quisqueya Juan Marichal Stadium. After the damage suffered on the playing field due to the recent celebration of concerts, the minister has announced that measures will be taken to prevent similar situations from happening again. The official described the stadium’s deterioration as “unacceptable”, especially considering the recent state investment of approximately 500 thousand dollars for its conditioning. Cruz expressed his discontent and stated that the situation is unacceptable.

“We are very upset with this situation. It cannot be allowed that, after a millionaire investment, the stadium ends up practically destroyed. That is a shame and we must put an end to it,” he stated.

Cruz revealed that the Ministry of Sports is managing meetings with those responsible for the administration and use of the stadium. The objective is to establish a regime of consequences for the damages caused. The possibility of intervening in the current management model is not ruled out if deemed necessary. The minister emphasized the need to identify those responsible for each damage and ensure its repair, especially when the events generate income. He underlined the importance of comprehensive responsibility in the use of the stadium. Cruz also compared the situation of the Quisqueya with the maintenance of the Felix Sanchez Olympic Stadium. He highlighted that, despite the holding of multiple massive events at the Felix Sanchez, the field is maintained in optimal conditions. The minister framed his statements within a broader critique of the culture of neglect in sports infrastructure. He called on both the public and private sectors to take on a greater commitment to the maintenance of sports facilities, given the million-dollar investment being made in works for the upcoming Central American and Caribbean Games. “We cannot continue with a culture of abandonment. Public investment must hurt everyone,” he concluded.
