Sheinbaum Asks ICE to Avoid Raids During Mexico Match in Los Angeles
The President of Mexico, Claudia Sheinbaum, requested that the U.S. Immigration and Customs Enforcement (ICE) refrain from conducting raids during the 2025 Gold Cup match that the Mexican National Football Team will play in Los Angeles this Saturday. This request arises from the concern expressed on social media by the Mexican community in the United States, who fear attending the match against the Dominican Republic at SoFi Stadium in Los Angeles due to possible arrests by immigration authorities. In response to this situation, Mexican consulates in the United States have launched a campaign to provide Mexican migrants with the necessary information in case of detention, facilitating contact with their families. Despite the sale of 50,000 tickets for Saturday’s match, local media have reported the fear of Mexicans to attend, motivated by the threat of raids and the increase in the presence of immigration authorities, especially in Los Angeles. This Saturday a megamarch is scheduled in Los Angeles, the epicenter of the protests against the immigration raids. Sheinbaum urged Mexicans in the United States to demonstrate peacefully, in the context of ICE raids.“We don’t believe that there will be any action from (ICE) during a soccer game. We hope there isn’t, or we call for no action from the immigration and customs service by the United States government,” declared the president.
