Ronny Mauricio is sent to Triple-A by the Mets
PORT ST. LUCIE, USA – Dominican infielder Ronny Mauricio was reassigned to the Triple-A affiliate Syracuse by the New York Mets, in a strategic move ahead of the start of the 2026 Major League Baseball season.
Mauricio joins a group of players who failed to secure a spot on the Opening Day roster. This decision also included the departure of pitcher Joey Gerber, while pitchers Brandon Waddell and Mike Baumann were reassigned to the minor league camp.
The depth in the Mets’ infield limited Mauricio’s opportunities to stay on the big league team. The infield structure is already defined, with Bo Bichette projected as the shortstop for the start of the season in the temporary absence of Francisco Lindor.
Furthermore, Vidal Bruján’s presence on the roster further reduced Mauricio’s chances.Looking to regain your level
Mauricio, who was considered one of the most promising prospects in the organization, has seen his development affected in recent years. An injury to the ligaments in his right ankle suffered in the Dominican Republic prevented him from playing the entire 2024 season, affecting his continuity.
In his time in the Major Leagues, he has participated in 61 games with the Mets, with a batting average of .226.
With this reassignment, Mauricio will start the season in Triple-A with the goal of regaining his best form and seeking an opportunity on the big team during the season.
