Benjamin Pritchard sets new world record in para rowing
The World Rowing Championships, held in Shanghai, China, witnessed a historic milestone this Monday. British athlete Benjamin Pritchard became the first athlete to break a record in the competition, marking a before and after in the men’s single sculls PR1 category.
Pritchard demonstrated his prowess on the second day of the event, recording a time of 8:59.60. This time not only secured him a place in history, but also surpassed the previous Paralympic record set at the championship.
The World Rowing Federation issued a statement highlighting Pritchard’s feat, who surpassed the time set in 2023 by the Ukrainian Roman Polianskyi.
The competition for the world title promises to be intense, with Pritchard facing rivals of the stature of Erik Horrie (Australia), Paralympic bronze medalist, and Giacomo Perini (Italy), who obtained the silver medal at the 2023 World Championships. The final is scheduled for this Friday.
