Piastri Claims Pole Position at Zandvoort
Australian driver Oscar Piastri, representing McLaren, secured pole position at the Dutch Grand Prix, corresponding to the fifteenth race of the Formula 1 World Championship. The competition will take place at the iconic Zandvoort circuit.
Lando Norris, Piastri’s teammate at McLaren, secured the second position on the grid, thus ensuring that McLaren occupies the front row.
Piastri, at 24 years old, set a time of 1:08.662 minutes during Q3, surpassing Norris by just 12 thousandths of a second. This is the fifth pole position of the season for the Australian.
Max Verstappen, the local idol of Red Bull, qualified in third place, 263 thousandths of a second behind Piastri. Isack Hadjar, from RB, surprised by obtaining fourth place.
George Russell (Mercedes) and Charles Leclerc (Ferrari) will occupy the third row, placing in fifth and sixth place respectively. Lewis Hamilton (Ferrari) achieved seventh place, sharing the fourth row with Liam Lawson (RB), who had an outstanding performance and placed eighth.
Carlos Sainz (Williams) and Fernando Alonso (Aston Martin) completed the top ten places on the grid. Sainz will start the race from ninth position, 843 thousandths of a second behind Piastri, while Alonso will start tenth, 968 thousandths of a second behind.
The race is scheduled for 72 laps, covering a total of 306.6 kilometers. The start is scheduled for this Sunday at 3:00 p.m. local time (13:00 GMT) at the Dutch circuit, where McLaren will seek to consolidate its dominance with a 1-2 start.
