Caitlin Clark Out for the Rest of the Season Due to Injury

Indiana Fever star Caitlin Clark announced this Thursday that she will not play again for the remainder of the WNBA season. The point guard is suffering from a right groin injury that has kept her out of action since July 15. Clark, selected number one in the 2024 Draft, is a key figure in the recent growth of the league. Through her social media, she expressed her frustration at not being able to return to the courts.

“I spent hours in the gym every day with the sole goal of getting back on the court. ‘Disappointed’ is not a big enough word to describe how I feel”

During this season, the 23-year-old player has faced several physical problems, including ailments in the quadriceps and left groin, as well as a bone contusion in the left ankle suffered in August. Despite recovery efforts, the coaching staff and the Fever management have decided to prioritize her long-term health.

“Caitlin worked tirelessly to return, but time is not on our side. Her well-being is the most important thing, and we want to have her at 100% for the start of the 2026 season”

Amber Cox, director of operations and general manager of the franchise
Before his definitive retirement, Clark averaged 16.5 points, 8.8 assists, and 5.0 rebounds in 13 games, although he never managed to play more than five consecutive games. His absence has marked a complicated season for Indiana, who also lost Aari McDonald, Sydney Colson, Sophie Cunningham, and Chloe Bibby to injury. Even so, the Fever continue to fight for a playoff spot, battling with Golden State, Seattle, and Los Angeles for one of the three remaining tickets. Clark, who never missed a game in her college career or in her rookie year in the WNBA, leaves her second professional campaign unfinished, after having been selected to the All-WNBA First Team and finishing fourth in the MVP voting in 2024.
