Pellegrini acknowledges the need for reinforcements in Betis’ midfield
Real Betis coach Manuel Pellegrini has acknowledged the need to reinforce his team’s midfield, following the departure of Guido Rodríguez and the sale of Johnny Cardoso. Pellegrini, although he has not mentioned names in the meetings with the board, has made it clear that the position needs reinforcement. Guido Rodríguez, who played at Betis from February 2020 to June 2024, left the club to join West Ham United. The Betis board sought to renew his contract, but it ultimately did not materialize. The coach made an exception when referring to Antony dos Santos, a Brazilian winger for Manchester United, whose return is being negotiated by Betis. Pellegrini highlighted the importance of the player last season and hopes that his signing will be finalized. Regarding the next match against Celta de Vigo, Pellegrini anticipates a complicated game, even though Celta has not yet won this season. The coach also confirmed that Pau López, the starting goalkeeper, will not be available for the match. Ricardo Rodríguez, Swiss left-back, will be called up despite being in negotiations to leave the club. Pellegrini also spoke about the importance of managing the schedule, especially in weeks with Europa League matches, and how rotations are crucial to compete in both competitions. The Chilean coach also pointed out the lack of “technical finesse” in his team in the first few matchdays of LaLiga, justifying the difficulty of scoring a large goal difference in such a competitive league.“Someone is missing in that position. It’s not a problem of a specific player, but” of the wear and tear of “facing three competitions”.
