QUITO – Ecuador’s President Daniel Noboa met this Thursday with Gianni Infantino, FIFA president, and Alejandro Domínguez, head of CONMEBOL, at the Carondelet Palace, the Ecuadorian government headquarters. The private meeting was also attended by Francisco Egas, president of the Ecuadorian Football Federation, and took place in the historic center of Quito.
The South American leader also emphasized the continuous growth of football in the region in the last decade, highlighting that CONMEBOL has invested more than 3.1 billion dollars in associations, clubs and competitions, an unprecedented figure in its management. Furthermore, he highlighted the global significance of the continental tournaments, mentioning that the finals of the Copa Libertadores and the Copa Sudamericana achieved a cumulative audience of 749 million viewers. Domínguez is in Quito to participate in the 82nd Ordinary Congress of CONMEBOL, where representatives from the ten South American federations gather to address the development and future of football in the region.After the meeting, Domínguez celebrated the historic participation of six South American teams in the next World Cup: Argentina, Brazil, Colombia, Ecuador, Paraguay and Uruguay, an event that will begin on June 11.
