SAN JUAN, Puerto Rico – Cuban third baseman Yoán Moncada emerged as the central figure in Cuba’s 3-1 victory over Panama, in the start of Group A of the 2026 World Baseball Classic, held at Hiram Bithorn Stadium.

Moncada, who had already had a notable participation in the 2023 tournament, demonstrated his worth by hitting a two-run home run and making several crucial defensive plays at third base. This, added to the solid performance of the Cuban pitching staff, sealed the victory.Cuba opened the scoring in the second inning with a solo home run by Yoelkis Guibert, against the Panamanian starting pitcher Logan Allen. In the following inning, Moncada extended the lead with his two-run hit, driving in Yiddi Cappe and establishing a 3-0 lead on the scoreboard.
