Miderec and MIVED to Supervise the Volleyball Palace
Santo Domingo – The Ministries of Sports and Recreation (Miderec) and Housing (MIVED) will assume supervision of the management of the Volleyball Palace. This measure is taken while the reconstruction of the venue is temporarily interrupted to accommodate the Basketball Tournament of the National District, organized by the Basketball Association of the National District (Abadina). The MIVED made adjustments to the works at the Volleyball Palace to ensure its use during the capital’s superior basketball tournament. This is because the “Virgilio Travieso Soto” Sports Palace is undergoing remodeling and is not available. According to an official statement, once the tournament is over, the remodeling work will resume. The objective is to prepare the installation for the XXV Central American and Caribbean Games Santo Domingo 2026, which will take place from July 24 to August 8 of next year. Once the works are completed, the MIVED and the Miderec will transfer the management of the Volleyball Palace to the recently created Volunteer group for its care. The information was released after a meeting between the Minister of Sports, Kelvin Cruz; the Minister of the Presidency, José Ignacio Paliza, who chairs the Organizing Committee of the games; and the Vice Minister of MIVED, Ney Rafael García, representing Minister Carlos Bonilla. In the meeting, which took place in Minister Cruz’s office, Rafael Uribe, president of the Dominican Basketball Federation, and Nelson Ramírez, technical director of the event, were also present. The Volleyball Palace is undergoing a major renovation by the Ministry of Housing, preparing for the Central American and Caribbean Games Santo Domingo 2026.The Minister of Sports, Kelvin Cruz, highlighted the effort made to facilitate the district tournament and reminded Abadina and the Organizing Committee of the importance of proper use and preservation of the facility.
