Mets and Yankees Make Moves in MLB Trade Market

New York becomes the epicenter of activity in MLB, with the Mets and Yankees making strategic moves before the Trade Deadline.

The New York Mets made official the arrival of Dominican left-handed reliever Gregory Soto, coming from the Baltimore Orioles.

In the agreement, the Mets sent right-handed pitchers Wellington Aracena and Cameron Foster to the Baltimore organization.

Soto, 30 years old, has had a standout season with the Orioles, with an ERA of 3.96 in 45 games, accumulating 44 strikeouts and 18 walks in 36.1 innings.

Soto’s experience, a two-time All-Star during his time with the Detroit Tigers, will strengthen the Mets’ bullpen.

For their part, the Yankees acquired third baseman Ryan McMahon from the Colorado Rockies.

In return, the Yankees sent young pitchers Griffin Herring (left-handed) and Josh Grosz (right-handed) to the Rockies.

McMahon, 29 years old, has played 100 games this season, leading MLB in games at third base.

Despite an OPS of .717, his defense stands out, ranking in the 91st percentile with 4 Outs Above Average, making him a valuable reinforcement.

The left-handed hitter has hit 16 home runs this season and has recorded at least 20 in each full season since 2019. Furthermore, his contract ensures his presence until 2027, with a value of 16 million dollars per season.

This move comes after the Yankees’ internal restructuring, which included Jazz Chisholm Jr.’s move to second base and DJ LeMahieu’s designation for assignment.

The Yankees also showed interest in Eugenio Suárez (D-backs), but negotiations did not prosper, which led the team to focus on McMahon.

Both teams are expected to remain active in the transfer market.

The Yankees could look to strengthen their rotation, with interest in pitchers like Dylan Cease (Padres) and Mitch Keller (Pirates).

With the Change Deadline approaching, these moves could be just the beginning of a series of strategic decisions.
