Milwaukee Brewers Near Postseason After Beating Cardinals
The Milwaukee Brewers are approaching the postseason after a resounding 8-2 victory over the St. Louis Cardinals. The match was highlighted by Christian Yelich’s offensive performance and Quinn Priester’s solid performance on the mound.
With this triumph, Milwaukee has 90 victories in the season, becoming the first team in the Major Leagues to reach that figure in 2025. This is the 12th time in the club’s history that they have achieved this number of victories, remaining only six away from their historical record of 96, achieved in 2011 and 2018.
Quinn Priester (13-2) pitched for 5.1 innings, allowing five hits and two runs, with five strikeouts and one walk. Priester extended his winning streak to 12 consecutive decisions, setting a franchise record.
Milwaukee’s offense was also key. In the third inning, Jake Bauers and Caleb Durbin started a rally with walks, followed by a single from Joey Ortiz and a walk to Sal Frelick that opened the scoring. Jackson Chourio contributed with a sacrifice fly and a defensive error allowed another run, while Brice Turang closed the inning with a run-scoring groundout.
Yelich extended the lead with a two-run homer in the seventh inning. This was his 28th home run of the year and the first since August 30.
The Cardinals scored two runs in the sixth inning, but they couldn’t recover. Andre Pallante (6-14) took the loss after allowing five runs (four earned) in five innings.
The Brewers closed the game with another run in the eighth thanks to a run-scoring single by Chourio, completing a solid performance that leaves them on the verge of sealing their postseason berth for the seventh time in the last eight seasons.
Milwaukee and St. Louis will face each other five more times over the next nine days, with the series still ongoing and the Brewers one step away from officially securing their qualification.
