Marlins: Meyer to the injured list, will Eury Pérez return on Monday?

2 Min Read

Miami, Florida – The Miami Marlins announced this Tuesday a modification to their roster, placing right-handed pitcher Max Meyer on the 15-day injured list due to a left hip ailment. In his place, the team has promoted Dominican reliever George Soriano from Triple-A Jacksonville. Meyer had a rough outing on Monday against the Colorado Rockies, allowing five runs (four earned) and ten hits in five innings, in a game the Marlins lost 6-4 at loanDepot park. The pitcher has struggled in his recent starts, posting an ERA of 7.01 in his last seven starts, following a promising start to the season with an ERA of 2.10.

Meyer’s absence creates a vacancy in the rotation just before the start of a three-city tour, which begins Monday in Pittsburgh against the Pirates. This could accelerate the return of Dominican Eury Pérez, who is recovering from Tommy John surgery.

We’re going to integrate Eury into the rotation on this trip. We hope everything goes well for him today, that he finishes healthy and pitches well, and then we’ll decide how many days to give him before his next start.

If Eury Pérez isn’t ready by the date, the Marlins could consider other internal options like Janson Junk or Mexican Valente Bellozo, both long relievers with the ability to start games.

Pérez, considered one of the organization’s young prospects, has performed well in his rehabilitation, including seven strikeouts in his recent sixth start. If activated, his return would represent a key moment in the restructuring of the Marlins’ pitching staff.

With a record affected by injuries and underperformance, the Miami team hopes that Eury Pérez’s return will bring stability and talent to a rotation that needs positive results.
