The Metropolitano Stadium in Madrid, Host of the 2027 Champions League Final

The Metropolitano Stadium, home of Atlético de Madrid, has been selected to host the men’s Champions League final in 2027. The decision was made by the UEFA Executive Committee during its meeting in Tirana. This will be the second time the red-and-white stadium hosts the final of the most prestigious competition in Europe, after the 2018-2019 edition, where Liverpool was crowned champion by defeating Tottenham. Opened on September 16, 2017, the Metropolitano is one of the eleven Spanish stadiums shortlisted to host matches of the 2030 World Cup, up to the semi-finals. The stadium has a capacity for 70,692 spectators, with 96% of the seats covered. The venue has 1,000 parking spaces inside the building and an additional 3,000 outside. In addition, the club has established two Fan Zones, one next to the South End and another next to the North End. The Champions League final of the 2025-2026 season will be played at the Puskas Arena in Budapest on May 30, 2026. The final at the Metropolitano will be the sixth to be played in the Spanish capital, adding to the four previous ones held at the Santiago Bernabéu. Historically, the Madrid stadium has witnessed great moments in the competition. In 2010, Inter defeated Bayern Munich, in 1980 Nottingham Forest beat Hamburg, in 1969 Milan was proclaimed champion against Ajax and in 1957 Real Madrid was crowned against Fiorentina. Additionally, the UEFA Executive Committee determined that the next Super Cup will be held in Salzburg (Austria), the 2027 European Under-19 Futsal Championship in Astana (Kazakhstan) and the Women’s Futsal Euro also in 2027 in Osijek (Croatia).
