SAN FRANCISCO – Manny Machado, the star third baseman for the San Diego Padres, added a new achievement to his outstanding career last Thursday by hitting his 350th home run at Oracle Park, during the last game of the series against the Giants. At just 32 years old, Machado joins a select group of players who have reached this figure before turning 33. Since 1901, only 33 players have achieved this feat. Throughout the history of Major League Baseball, only 102 players have surpassed 350 home runs. In addition to this impressive milestone, Machado is only 29 hits away from 2,000, bringing him closer to an even more exclusive club.
To date, only 11 players have managed to accumulate 2,000 hits and 350 home runs before the end of their season at age 32. Of these, eight are already members of the Hall of Fame: Hank Aaron, Jimmie Foxx, Lou Gehrig, Ken Griffey Jr., Mickey Mantle, Willie Mays, Mel Ott, and Frank Robinson. The other three are contemporary figures not yet eligible: Miguel Cabrera, Albert Pujols, and Alex Rodriguez.
Considered one of the best third basemen of his generation, the Dominican seems headed towards Cooperstown. Currently, Machado is also enjoying a great offensive moment, with a .316 average and an OPS of .879 after his home run in the third inning.
Although his power had not manifested at the beginning of the season, five of his eight home runs in 2025 have come in the last two weeks.
Last year, Machado had already left his mark on Padres history by breaking the franchise record for most home runs, surpassing Nate Colbert’s 163. Thursday’s home run was his 175th in a San Diego uniform, and everything indicates that the count will continue to increase.
