Bulgaria Defeats Dominican Republic in Volleyball Nations League

In an exciting match corresponding to Group 1 of the 2025 Nations League, the Bulgarian sextet achieved a close victory over the Dominican Republic with a score of three sets to one. The partial scores were 25-21, 30-32, 25-19 and 31-29.

The match, organized by the International Volleyball Federation, saw the Bulgarians secure their first victory in the competition, after a previous defeat against Canada. For their part, the Dominicans suffered their first defeat after a victorious debut against Serbia.

The Bulgarian attack was led by Elisa Atanasijevic, who scored 21 points, followed by Mikaela Stoyanova with 18 and Dimitrova with 16.

Regarding the numbers of the match, Bulgaria surpassed the Dominican Republic in attack (65 against 64) and in blocking (16-11). However, the Dominican Republic had an advantage in serves, with a score of 7-4.

For the Dominican side, Brayelin Martínez stood out with 28 points, followed by Cándida Arias with 16, Jineirys Martínez with 11 and Massiel Matos with 10.

The first set was contested, with Bulgaria taking a 15-11 lead thanks to their solid defensive play. Despite the Dominican reaction, Bulgaria took the set with a score of 25-21.

In the second set, the Dominican Republic team achieved a spectacular comeback, tying the score and finally winning the set 32-30, driven by the performance of Massiel Matos, Brayelin Martínez and Gaila González, in addition to the key blocks by Cándida Arias.

In the third set, Bulgaria took advantage of defensive errors by the Dominicans and created two decisive rallies that allowed them to take the lead in the match.
