Luzardo Shines in Philadelphia: Phillies Complete Sweep of Mets

Philadelphia – Left-handed pitcher Jesús Luzardo delivered a memorable performance at Citizens Bank Park, leading the Philadelphia Phillies to a 6-4 comeback victory over the New York Mets. This triumph sealed a four-game sweep, solidifying the Phillies’ position at the top of the National League East Division.

Luzardo, after a complicated start where he allowed five hits and four runs in the first inning, managed to adjust his performance impressively. He dominated the opposing batters, retiring the last 22 he faced. His work extended over eight innings, during which he struck out nine opponents, adding his sixth double-digit strikeout performance of the season. With this figure, he ties his teammates Zack Wheeler and Logan Webb (Giants) as leaders of the National League in this category.

Luzardo’s performance provided the necessary boost for Philadelphia’s offense to respond effectively. Otto Kemp hit a two-run home run in the fourth inning, while Bryce Harper contributed a run-scoring double in the fifth. The decisive lead came in the sixth inning, with a three-run rally driven by a double from Kemp, a single from Harrison Bader, and another hit from Harper.

With this victory, the Phillies improved their record to 87-60, extending their lead over the Mets (76-71) to 11 games, the largest difference of the season, with 15 games remaining on the regular season schedule.

Luzardo’s performance not only secured the victory, but also established him as one of the most reliable pieces of Philadelphia’s rotation in the final stretch towards the postseason.
