Liverpool Secures Alexander Isak in a Record Signing

Liverpool has officially announced the acquisition of Alexander Isak, in a transfer that amounts to 145 million euros, with the possibility of adding 5 million more in variables, raising the total cost to 150 million euros.

This operation makes the Swedish striker the most expensive signing in the history of English football, surpassing the 125 million that Liverpool invested in Florian Wirtz this summer. Although it does not reach the 200 million euros that Paris Saint-Germain paid for Neymar Júnior in 2017.

The agreement for Isak was finalized this Sunday, after weeks of negotiations. Initially, Liverpool offered 110 million pounds (127 million euros), but Newcastle rejected the offer, valuing the player at at least 150 million pounds (173 million euros).

To facilitate his transfer, Isak did not participate in the preseason, was excluded from activities with the team and trained separately for weeks, without being called up for Premier League matches.

In his social media, Isak expressed that “promises had been broken” and that a change was best for everyone. Newcastle responded that they had not received an offer that met their expectations.

Nick Woltemade’s signing for 80 million euros, the most expensive in Newcastle’s history, helped to resolve the situation, ensuring that Isak would join Liverpool this season.

Isak, the Luxury Signing for Liverpool

The arrival of the Swede completes a transfer market where the ‘Reds’ have invested close to 500 million euros, including Florian Wirtz (125), Hugo Ekitike (95), Milos Kerkez (47), Jeremie Frimpong (40) and Giovanni Leoni (31).

After investing only 17 million in Federico Chiesa last summer, Liverpool had resources available, in addition to having generated 220 million in sales, such as those of Luis Díaz (70), Darwin Núñez (53) and Jarrell Quansah (35).

Isak, who arrived in the Premier League in 2023 from Real Sociedad, has played 109 matches for Newcastle, scoring 62 goals and providing 11 assists. With the ‘Magpies’, he won a League Cup and participated in the Champions League.

At 25 years old, Isak joins a renowned club, which will force Arne Slot to reconsider his starting eleven, especially after Ekitike’s performance, who has scored three goals in his first four games playing as a ‘nine’.
