Leones del Escogido Begin Preparation for the 2025-26 Season
The Leones del Escogido, current national and Caribbean champions, will begin their official preparation for the 2025-26 season of the Dominican Republic Professional Baseball League (LIDOM) next Thursday, September 25th.
The preparation will take place at the New York Yankees academy, located in Boca Chica.
The Baseball Operations department of the 17-time national champions, led by General Manager Carlos Peña, confirmed that the team’s first practice is scheduled for 9:00 a.m.
For the start of training, the Escogido has summoned all members of its native reserve and will extend the invitation to the players selected in the 2025 Rookie Draft, which will be held on September 10.
After conquering the crown in the 2024-25 season, the Lions will return with a reinforced roster.
During the offseason, the team has added several key players through trades and free agency signings. Among them are Alexander Canario (OF), José Devers (SS), Víctor Robles (OF), Génesis Cabrera (LP), Héctor Pérez (RP), Luis Santos (RP), and Fernando Abad (LP).
In addition, the club has re-signed several important players: Junior Lake (OF), Yamaico Navarro (1B), Zoilo Almonte (OF), Rodolfo Martínez (PD), Keury Mella (PD), and Orlando Calixte (3B).
The Lions’ title defense will begin on Wednesday, October 15, when they face the Tigres del Licey as visitors at the Quisqueya Juan Marichal stadium. The next day, the Lions will play their first home game against the Estrellas Orientales.
