Kelvin Cruz Starts 2026 with Sports Renewal in Santiago Rodríguez
The Minister of Sports, Kelvin Cruz, has begun the year 2026 with an agenda focused on sports development, starting his work in the province of Santiago Rodríguez. The main announcement was the comprehensive renovation of the local sports pavilion, a facility that, after more than two decades of use, presents an advanced state of deterioration and problems with leaks. This initiative is part of Minister Cruz’s commitment to fulfill President Luis Abinader’s promises, bringing hope and joy to the youth of every corner of the country. The minister’s visit coincided with a game of the final series of the local superior basketball tournament, where he made a donation of 500 thousand pesos to support the event.The pavilion’s remodeling will include the renovation of the roof, the installation of a new FIBA-certified hardwood floor, the modernization of offices, bathrooms, bleachers and other spaces, ensuring first-class facilities for local athletes. With this intervention, Minister Kelvin Cruz completes his tour of the four provinces of the northwest line, including Valverde (Mao), Montecristi and Dajabón, positively impacting thousands of young athletes. The presence of Minister Cruz at the sporting event generated great enthusiasm among the attendees, marking a milestone after more than a decade without the visit of an official of his level to this important regional tournament. The minister was accompanied by the provincial governor, Glehany Azcona Torres; the mayor Félix Marte, the deputy Nicolás Tolentino López and other local authorities.Minister Cruz contacted President Luis Abinader to inform him about the conditions of the basketball pavilion and “he sent a message to all the young people, athletes and basketball lovers of the municipality of Sabaneta in Santiago Rodríguez, that in the next tournament they will have a completely new sports center”.
