Aaron Judge nearing return to action with the Yankees

The New York Yankees could receive a key reinforcement in their offense next week. Aaron Judge, their captain and current American League Most Valuable Player, is close to returning to the field after recovering from a strain in his right elbow flexor. Judge, who suffered the injury on July 22 during a game against the Blue Jays, has progressed positively in his rehabilitation. This Friday he participated in batting practice on the field and this Saturday he will travel to Tampa to face live pitches, which represents the last step before being activated from the injured list.

The plan is to have him back as a designated hitter on Tuesday or Wednesday in Texas.

Judge’s elbow ligament remains intact, but the team has decided to protect it, limiting his defensive participation at the start of his return. The star hitter played two additional games after the initial injury before being placed on the 10-day inactive list.
