Valdez Shines as Tigres Avoid Sweep Against Bravos

ATLANTA – Dominican pitcher Framber Valdez led a solid performance on the mound, allowing the Detroit Tigers to defeat the Atlanta Braves with a score of 5-2, avoiding the sweep in the series.

Valdez pitched for six innings, allowing only two runs and keeping his team in the game, while the offense prepared to respond.

Detroit’s comeback materialized in the eighth inning. Kerry Carpenter started with a triple against Dominican reliever Joel Payamps. Matt Vierling tied the score with a double, setting the stage for Venezuelan Gleyber Torres to drive in the go-ahead run with a sacrifice fly.

The Tigers extended their lead in the ninth inning, adding two more runs thanks to the rival pitching’s lack of control and defensive errors. Wenceel Pérez, also Dominican, scored one of the runs after receiving a walk, and a double by Dillon Dingler drove in another run.

In relief, Drew Anderson earned the victory by pitching two scoreless innings, and Kyle Finnegan secured the win with his first save of the season.

With this victory, Detroit tied its record at 16-16, demonstrating its ability to react and win a crucial game against Atlanta.
