Anthony Davis Arrives at Washington Wizards in a Shocking Trade
Star power forward Anthony Davis, with ten All-Star selections, begins a new stage in his professional career after being traded to the Washington Wizards. This move was finalized in a trade that involved eight players with the Dallas Mavericks.
Exchange Details
The transfer includes several key players who will change teams, significantly modifying the rosters of both franchises.
- Washington receives:
- Anthony Davis
- Jaden Hardy
- D’Angelo Russell
- Dante Exum
- Dallas gets:
- Khris Middleton
- AJ Johnson
- Malaki Branham
- Marvin Bagley III
- Two first-round draft picks
- Three second-round draft picks
Davis, with an average of 20.4 points, 11.1 rebounds and 2.8 assists per game this season, has been out of the courts since mid-January due to a ligament tear in his left hand. Fortunately, he will not require surgery and his recovery is expected to take between four and six weeks.
The injury occurred during a game against the Utah Jazz, while defending a drive by Lauri Markkanen.
A new project in Washington
With Davis’s arrival, the Wizards continue to strengthen their project, following the acquisition of Trae Young last month. Young, currently out due to injury, is expected to return after the All-Star break.
Once both players are available, Washington will have a promising core led by Davis and Young, along with young center Alex Sarr, and emerging talents like Kyshawn George, Bub Carrington and Bilal Coulibaly, as well as standout rookie Tre Johnson.
Injury History and Outlook in Dallas
This is Davis’s second extended absence of the season, after missing several games in November due to a calf strain, in addition to a previous groin injury.
Since arriving in Dallas, Davis has had health problems, missing a considerable number of games.
For the Mavericks, this move represents a bet on the development of rookie star Cooper Flagg, freeing up space in the interior rotation. All players acquired by Dallas could become free agents this summer, while the franchise assesses the situation of point guard Kyrie Irving, who is recovering from an injury.
